UFC 123: MNL AWARDS
Everyone knows about the “Fight of the Night” awards that are given out at the end of each event. What we think is that there are more awards to be handed out every fight than just submission or knockout of the night.
UFC 123 was headlined by Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Lyoto Machida and held at The Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn, Michigan. When the bell sounded at the end of the main event the crowd knew who won the fight and the judges agreed, the first award from UFC 124 is:
Horrible Judging Robbery: Lyoto Machida
First and foremost I don’t believe that Rampage won two rounds and neither did Rampage. Machida fought his elusive counter punching style and worked his usual magic against a charging Rampage. The fight was not great, it was a snooze fest, but that doesn’t mean that Machida deserved to get robbed!
Sportsmanship Award: Rampage Jackson
His post fight comments said it all. Rampage and his corner thought he lost the fight. Both rampage and Machida are both open for a rematch and whether the UFC gives it to them is still to be decided, but Rampage knows he got away with one there.
Fighter Most In Need Of A Tan: Joe Lauzon
Dude, what is with the trend of really PALE guys wearing white shorts? I don’t understand it, but Lauzon once again shows us that some guys need to tan. I’m all for getting natural suntans, but when winter comes not getting a tan and fighting is a bad idea. Lastly, if you are going to be pale don’t wear white shorts, PLEASE!
Worst Walkout Music: BJ Penn
I understand that Penn feels pride for his heritage, but please find another way to show it. You have the worst walkout music in MMA, I don’t care that it’s Don Ho (at least I think it is) or that it sets you apart from everyone else. It sounds like something my grandpa you like and that isn’t something that the fans like.
WTF Moment Of The Night: Phil Davis and the “Wonder- Mura”
Davis got Tim Boetsch’s arm behind his back and clamped on a Kimura from there. This left Joe Rogan wondering if he locked it with on arm or two, I’ve never seen Rogan left speechless before and that is exactly with the “Wonder-Mura” did.
Worst Celebrity Sighting: Antoine Dodson
If you don’t know who this is don’t feel bad I didn’t know who it was till is looked at his face. Dodson became a YouTube sensation because of something he said during a news story. Dodson saved his sister from being raped in her bed room and then gave the reporters a hilarious interview about “Hiding your people, cause people a getting raped.” if you still haven’t seen the video click here The news cast in question.
The final award of the night is: Most Disappointing Comeback: Karo Parisyan
Parisyan looked horrible in his fight against Dennis Hallman, no that he fought badly. Parisyan actually looked fat and overweight at 170 lbs. Parisyan came in looking like he did his training at the Country Kitchen Buffet instead of the gym. Looking over weight and having a crushing loss in the first round doesn’t bode well for Parisyan.
