Waitin’ For My Yahya: Brown Replaces Korean Zombie
MNL favorite Mike Thomas Brown will be replacing “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung at UFN 23 against Brazilian BJJ black belt Rani Yahya January 22nd.
Brown is taking the fight on short notice after dropping a split decision to Diego Nunes last Saturday night at UFC 125. Mike Brown is the former WEC lightweight champion, winning it after he KO’d Urijah Faber in November of 2008. Brown defended the belt twice before surrendering it to emerging Brazilian superstar Jose Aldo.
Yahya is a veteran MMA fighter who made 7 appearances in the WEC going 4-3. Yahya was KO’s by controversial new UFC signee Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto in a K1 fight but brings tremendous BJJ skills to the UFC.
This matchup appears to be the classic powerful wrestler vs. slick BJJ practitioner matchup so common in the sport of MMA.
